Description: This WW2 Late War Japanese IJA Last Ditch Arisaka Type 30 Bayonet & Wooden Scabbard is in good condition overall but does show expected signs of age, service and storage. The blade is marked on the ricasso and production was carried out by the Jinsen Arsenal in Occupied Korea. The blade is unfullered and retains a strong amount of original finish as well as it's unsharpened blunt edge. The wooden grips are secure and appear to be in good condition, no cracks or other damage can be found. The rectangular pommel is marked with a serial number as well as what appears to be a Series number stamp. The press stud is free and appears to function as intended. The contoured crossguard is clean and is an indicator of the "lateness" of production. The next transition saw the introduction of cruder rectangular guards, and eventually the deletion of the mortise slot in the pommel. The late pattern wooden scabbard is in fair condition overall and shows signs of damage as well as repair. This is the correct style scabbard for late production Jinsen bayonets and would strongly appear to be original to this blade. The body of the scabbard has noticeable cracks in several locations and has lost wood near the ferrule end. Despite this damage, the string wrappings are still tight and hold the scabbard together, while the lower damaged area has been blued in several places. The glue work is discrete and only noticeable upon very close inspection. The frog attachment at the throat of the scabbard is loose but held in place by a single rivet. Mild "play" can be detected in the wooden body halves at the throat though all components are secure as shown. Of note, a mild amount of what appears to be white "overspray" paint can be detected on both the bayonet and the scabbard. This Late War Occupied Production Type 30 bayonet would make a fine addition to any advanced Imperial Japanese collection.
