Send back knock-offs, etc. We're only trying to keep transactions honest. We'd never stick you with a broken or poorly described piece. Although we usually describe things thoroughly. FUN FACTS ABOUT DEGENHART GLASS: There are Degenhart colors out there that were never recorded. They were produced one time in very small batches. There were about 200 base colors but many more when you count variations of colors and mixing of colors, etc. To have every color of Wise Ole Owl every created you'd own a collection comprised of hundreds of owls. Boyd Glass, also of Cambridge, Ohio, purchased the Degenhart Co. in '78 and many of their pieces were made with Degenhart molds. They simply removed the "D" in a heart and put a "B" in a diamond. Degenhart didn't start putting identifying marks on their pieces until 1972... WOW!!! So that means most Degenhart pieces are unmarked? Yep, sure does. You'll have to find other identifying factors. ABOUT DEGENHART GLASS: (fun read, just takes a minute) Degenhart Crystal Glass Art was the official name of John & Elizabeth Degenhart's glass making company. They started out in 1947, one year after John retired from his job. Sadly, in 1964 John died suddenly and Elizabeth picked herself up staunchly and ran the company until April of 1978, when she herself passed on. During their tenure they developed and produced quite a portfolio of not only individual pieces, but also colors. Literally hundreds of colors. There were right around 200 individual base colors. However, there were combinations and special versions of colors, too. It's also expected there were colors that never made the books and were, in fact, only made one time in very small batches. No-one will ever know exactly how many colors the Degenharts made. Did they even know, I wonder? Bernard Boyd acquired Degenhart Crystal Glass Art Company upon the death of Elizabeth Degenhart in April 1978. It was fitting, as Bernard and his father, Zach Boyd, both worked for the Degenharts during their time. Thus, Boyd Glass was born and they produced glass until 2013. The Degenhart Glass & Paperweight Museum actually remained open until October of 2011. I visited many times doing research on consignments. It was always very interesting. Sadly, the contents of the museum will never be seen together again, as they were divided up among multiple other museums and distributed. From there it's impossible to say where they might have went. I'd venture to say there is a private collector out there somewhere holding one of the finest collections of Degenhart glass under one roof today. As per marks go, they are most know for the crisp heart with a "D" inside, However, there were other markers, too. They marked pieces with a circle and a "D" inside, though not so common. They had a hand marker with the heart and the "D" that wasn't so crisp. They used stickers, but the stickers have seldom survived the years. I've even read about a rare mark used on only the owls. Below we've included a couple links to sites that provide pretty interesting insight into the Degenhart Crystal Glass Art Company and the pieces they created.
