Ms. Thompson diligently continued to develop her methods over time earning a rare collaboration in 1997 with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, to design and reproduce the Trust's eighteen historic properties the majority of which (if properly cared for and stored) have stood the test of time. Several of these properties are still in circulation to this day more than thirty years after their production and are valued treasures to collectors, historians, teachers and even as personal memento's for many. More About the Artist and her Craft Sheila Thompson and her family started their collectibles business in a tiny home workshop in Summerville, South Carolina in 1979. Several of Sheila’s loyal customers vividly recall first purchasing her hand-crafted works of art in the 1980's from her personally at a booth inside the “infamous” open-air market on market street in downtown Charleston, SC where she would personalize and autograph every piece. Over several years Sheila would continue to develop her methods and amassed a large client base looking for her architecturally accurate wooden pieces of art. Eventually she moved her operation into a modest-sized warehouse offering a monthly collectibles subscription, newsletter, signing events and dealer franchises across the United States. Eventually, Her daughter would join the company and help Sheila produce some of the most architecturally precise three-dimensional buildings, houses, monuments and points of interest from the most iconic locations worldwide. As Sheila’s Collectibles continued to flourish in Charleston, SC, many product variations were added; such as famous landmarks, figurines, purses, door stops, fireplace screens, wind chimes, magnets, holiday décor, NCAA Collectibles and other additional items of significance from around the world. Sheila’s passion for creating collectibles to preserve the worlds historic architecture is unparalleled and many of these pieces (if stored and cared for properly) are still available today, more than 40 years later.
