Description: One of the rarest items you will ever find on eBay. For purchase is a 14k gold baseball medal awarded in 1917 for excellence in pitching, by the Shanghai Baseball Club which began in China around 1863. The history of baseball in China is fascinating but difficult to summarize here. Leagues started with foreign workers in China but grew in popularity and China was sending kids to America colleges to learn baseball, and maybe to study. In 1915 it all paid off when Shanghai finished 2nd behind the Philippines in the Greater Asia Baseball Tournament. You can see scale of medal next to a half dollar. Medal weighs 7.1 grams and is marked on the loop but not legible to me. May have had a ribbon attached.Tested 14k.
