Description: NEW Souvenir Banknote Leonid Kadeniuk the First Astronaut of Independent Ukraine Souvenir Banknote Leonid Kadeniuk – the First Astronaut of Independent Ukraine Release date: 26.11.2020Size - 80x170 mm This banknote celebrates Hero of Ukraine Leonid Kadeniuk, who was the first astronaut of independent Ukraine. In 1997, Kadeniuk flew on NASA`s Space Shuttle Columbia as part of the crew of international mission STS-78. The Ukrainian astronaut and researcher performed a wide range of tasks for a joint Ukrainian-American project that studied the impact of a micro-gravity environment on the growth and development of higher plants. This banknote is made of paper and features a watermark (an image of the globe with the continents). A 1.5 mm security thread is embedded into the paper along the short side of the note. There are also security fibers, which fluoresce under UV light. The banknote is printed in offset, intaglio, screen and raised printing with the use of security inks. The banknote is sized 80 х 170 mm, and has an issue number of 50,000 units (including 40,000 units in souvenir packaging). The main image on the front of the note is a portrait of Leonid Kadeniuk, above which is the legend ПЕРШИЙ КОСМОНАВТ УКРАЇНИ (first Ukrainian astronaut); to the right is the emblem of the State Space Agency of Ukraine; under the portrait is the legend LEONID KADENIUK/ 1951 ЛЕОНІД 2018/ КАДЕНЮК; to the left of the legend is a SPARK feature in the form of a globe, which produces a dynamic light effect (when looked at from different angles, the ink in some areas of the image changes color from green to blue); beneath, to the left, against the backdrop of a molecular structure, is a stylized image of a plant; under the legend КАДЕНЮК (Kadeniuk) is Ukraine`s small coat of arms, above which is the legend УКРАЇНА (Ukraine), to the right of the coat of arms is a Ukrainian flag; below the coat of arms are the figure 1 and an image of a space shuttle; beneath are the legends NAТIONAL BANK OF UKRAINE/ НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ; in the right bottom corner of the note is a feature printed in optically variable ink (when looked at from different angles, the image changes color from gold to green). Along the bottom side of the note is the legend ЛЕОНІД КАДЕНЮК (Leonid Kadeniuk), which is repeated six times. The main image on the back of the note is that of the Space Shuttle Columbia against the background of the Solar System planets; above the image is the legend THE FIRST ASTRONAUT OF UKRAINE; to the right of the image is the figure 1 and the image of a space shuttle; there are the following legends: 1997 (under the shuttle) and 2020 (below); beneath, to the right are the note’s serial number and the legend НЕ Є ПЛАТІЖНИМ ЗАСОБОМ (not legal tender) (printed vertically).
