Description: You are viewing a Flown NASA Kennedy Space Center (KSC) Space Shuttle Seal made from a High Temperature Flexible SILICA Weave. It appears to be a Nylon Rope, but it is NOT! This Artifact is manufactured from a high temperature resistance Silica Based Fabric. Flexible Insulation Blankets (FIB), are a quilted flexible blanket-like surface insulation. Used were reentry temperature was up to 649 Degrees Centigrade or 1200 Degrees Fahrenheit. There are three Black VELCO patches sewn into the underside of this item, used to attach to critical Flight Hardware aboard the Orbiter Space Vehicle. I purchased this artifact at a NASA Kennedy Space Center Auction in a lot of Flown Space Hardware in the late 1990's. The basic dimensions of this Space Item are: 6.0 inches long by 2.0 inches wide. This item will be sealed in a Clear 8 MIL ZIP-LOCK Plastic Bag. Caution: If remove from it's sealed bag, please carefully handle any Fibrous Insulation material with gloves.
