Very early type of timepiece only movement mounted on the velvet covered brass dial plate hinged to the side of the case. Verge escapement with short bob pendulum with silk suspension operating between Huygens type cycloidal cheeks. Beautifully turned movement pillars. Loomes records Hermanus Van Spreken as working in The Hague in 1665.I think I should mention that since putting this clock up for sale on Ebay, very serious doubts have been expressed to me about the authenticity of the signature by a horologist who knows much more about this this type of clock than I do. Therefore the clock will be sold with this having been said. But of course it is up to a prospective buyer to decide for themselves. This clock must be amongst the earliest pendulum clocks made after Christian Huygens and the clockmaker Salomon Coster first applied the pendulum to the control of of a clock. For similar clocks see “Huygens’ Legacy” (Paleis Het Loo) and “Spring-driven Dutch Pendulum Clocks” by Renier Plomp. Thinning out collection so now surplus to requirements Please see images below. At the top of the images below I have included 2 short videos to show how the clock runs and strikes.Buyers in the USA please note;- This is an antique item and as I understand it there should be no import charges into the US, If you see import charges levied by Ebay in this listing, please look for the identical listing for this clock which can be found in 'Sellers other items'. The alternative listing is in the 'Antiques' category for which no US import duties are applicable and use that listing to offer or buy this item. This problem is caused by the mis-categorization of antique clocks by Ebay. Condition. The case is in good polished condition The movement is complete and in good running order keeping good time within the limitations imposed by verge pendulum control. [It should be noted that the pendulum may need re-rating after the disturbance caused during shipping. There is minimal or no wear that I can see on the movement. Winding key included with the clock.
